The New York Public Library needs your help to fight the worst funding cut in our 100-year history.
Send your letter to elected officials - and make all the difference.
At risk: Up to 12 branches could be cut, 6 day service cut to 4, thousands of kids’ programs slashed, 1/3 fewer books on shelves, job search help and computer access dramatically reduced.
The mission of The New York Public Library is to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen our communities. The origins of this remarkable institution date back to the time when New York was emerging as one of the world's most important cities. By the second half of the 19th century, New York had already surpassed Paris in population and was quickly catching up with London, then the world's most populous city. Fortunately, this burgeoning and somewhat brash metropolis counted among its citizens men who foresaw that if New York was indeed to become one of the world's great centers of urban culture, it must also have a great library.
This app, powered by Fanggle's FundJoy technology, enables patrons and well wishers to donate funds as well as prevent library budget cuts through a mobile advocacy program involving petitions to City Council representatives and the Mayor's office. Share information through email, Facebook and Twitter. Includes Google Maps mashup for advocacy by Library branch. Detailed statistics on up to the minute mobile and web based donations. Watch videos on the campaign to avoid budget cuts and library closures, and how the library affects the lives of everyday NYC citizens in a meaningful manner.
